Foodies...

Any trip to South East Asia one has the pleasures and delights of trying out the local cuisine. Whether it's the Pad Thai in Thailand, Laab in Loas, Amok in Cambodia or the Pho (pronounced fur) in Vietnam.

Sampling the local delicacies is really one of the joys of travelling so why not do a cooking class while your there. You'll be amazed just how simple most of the recipes are to make and you'll take your new found cooking skill back home with you for you  (and your friends ) to enjoy. You'll also get an invaluable, local incite into the country your visiting in a nice relaxed atmosphere.....

Bon Appetite

TTTT (Top Ten Travel Tips)
Here's my Top Ten Travel Tips to ensure you have a wonderful and memorable holiday experience.(in no particular order!)

1
- Go with an open mind... Things will be different than home!
2- Drink lots of water... (not tap!)
3- Smile and the world will smile with you (it's free!)
4- Try and learn some of the local language. (It doesn't matter if the locals are laughing with you or at you!
5- Don't flash the cash, jewellery etc
6- Carry a hat, sunblock, mosquito reppellant and toilet paper at all times. (Better looking at it than for it!)
7- Dress respectfully and conservatively when required in temples etc. (if in doubt ask!!)
8- Have fun Bartering.. (that 10 cents is going to be a lot more important to them than you!)
9- Don't buy off children...Buy off the parents so they don't keep their kids out of school.
10- Do a little research about the country your visiting before you go to enrich your experience.

Urrrrrgghhh Mosquitos!
With wet season approaching it might be a timely reminder about protection against our little biting friends. Mosquito's aren't a huge problem in Cambodia but they are defiantly here and some of them are carrying some nasty diseases like Dengue Fever and Malaria. Prevention is better than cure and a few simple measures will ensure you holiday of a lifetime isn't spoilt.

1- Always carry mosquito repellant with you.
2-Wear light coloured clothing. (they think dark colours are good hiding places!)
3- Mosquito's hate wind. Sleeping with a fan on will provide a mosquito free sleep.
4- A clove of garlic a day, keeps the mosquito's away.(rumour has it!)and vampires.
5-The Dengue fever mosquito bites during the day time, not just hot-spot times sunrise and sunset. So apply repellent regularly.
6 -If bitten apply tigerbalm to the bite and try not scratch it. Breaking the skin can lead to infection.
7-Be nice to Gecko's as they eat mosquito's. Smile

Photography Heaven....

Cambodia really is a photographers paradise. Whether it's an Angkor Wat sunrise, a Tonle Sap floating village sunset, cheeky kids with biggest smiles in South east Asia or just witnessing everyday Cambodian life, there is something for everyone. I would defiantly recommend bring spare batteries along as it quite easy to exhaust them with all the wonderful photo opportunities you'll experience. Also, maybe purchasing a larger memory card would hurt as a common complaint is that ones memory card is full and having to delete pictures. So plan ahead and happy snapping ;-)

Is Cambodia a safe place to visit??
Cambodia is now a super safe place to visit.. To be honest i feel 5 times more comfortable walking around the streets of Cambodia than i would back in my home city in Australia. Being a 95%Buddhist country violence and drugs issues are not major problems in their society compared with some western countries, petty theft does occur but that happens anywhere. I've never known anyone over my last 3 years Cambodia on my tours that has been a victim.. If you use the exact same common sense  rules as you would back home ie not walking home alone from bars at 3am etc, things wont be a problem. My guess is that you will be pleasantly suprised how friendly and safe Cambodia actually is... I still am!

Best time to visit Cambodia?
Wet Season (June to October)
Everything is lush and green plus there's not so many tourists! The odd afternoon shower is more often than not a blessing in disguise.
(Authors note - Defiantely get's my vote for the best time to travel.)
Dry Season (November to March)
Coolest time to visit average temperature..Tourist season crowds
Hot Season (late March to early May)
Khmer New Year Time. Good beach and swimming weather.
